Dope Concept's profile

The Printlife Street Party

Collaborations can be attributed as being behind the genius of some of the commonly known artistic projects to date. This makes a whole lot of sense when you consider the vast creative influence each mind brings to the table. Dope Concept alongside some pretty amazing creative minds curated a photo-shoot that pays an ode to the force that collaborations bring to life.

The shoot was conceptualised to be shot at Johannesburg, in Newtown as a street shoot. The narrative invested into the shoot was to create a “Printlife Street Party” – a neo-African-esque way dabbling across portraying themes such as the youths’ youth in view of their self-identity, aspirations and attitudes in the wake of the evolving social, economic, political land global dynamics. One of the key things that led our visual appetite was the vibrant walls slapped with an array of mind-boggling and impressive graffiti designs. Ngugi Vere of Be Bold led this visual direction as he mastered the location backed up with his assistant – budding photographer and creative director Gibson Cooper.

The garments were sourced from African aesthetic clothing brand Shona Accra and MaDlamini Sisters In Vintage – supplying tailor made brogues and quirky bag designs with stunning craftsmanship.
The models were chosen on the idea that they represent a diverse sense of style, identity, attitude and body type but most importantly that they had an Afrocentric flavour about them. Models: Koketso “Kokie” Kabelo, Thapelo “Tpee” Setlhako, Edward Sanudi, Kabelo Leshoro, Mustapha Aderibigbe and Keorapetse “Model K” Mothobi.

Anele Khoza of Dope Concept captured the essence of the entire photo-shoot with his long-standing photographic experience and sense of identifying classic shots

The final result of this creative collaboration is the “Printlife Street Party”. Dope Concept would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who contributed wholly to this project. And to you the viewer, we hope you enjoy our work.
